Our first stop out of California was Las Vegas, NV.
Vegas is NOT a garden spot, and the only reason to go there for us is to see friends. This is a big reason we went. We used to live in Vegas and it was a shit hole then, but now seven years later it’s even more of a cesspool and the crime has gotten even more out of control. I seriously don’t know why people come here other than to gamble, maybe see a show, or go to a club, but if you ask me there are plenty of other places you can do any of these things that are a lot cleaner, safer, and a lot more affordable. But hey, it’s Vegas baby! *insert eye roll here*
Staying in Vegas is always cheaper off the strip. Staying off the strip hotel’s usually have some sort of shuttle to take you to the strip or you can always catch an Uber or Lyft as well. Some casino hotels are pretty affordable, but they aren’t usually the best hotels (sorry, we’re self proclaimed hotel snobs, but do like a deal). Remember also to check if your hotel charges for parking. This year a lot of the casino’s are starting to charge for parking and valet so this will bring your bill up as well as any “resort” charges that may apply. To save money off the strip you could also look into staying in Downtown Vegas. The city has fixed it up a lot so it’s way better than it used to be. Still “iffy”, but a lot better.
To be safe, always be aware of your surroundings. Vegas is a haven for pickpockets. Make sure you don’t let anyone get too close to you and always leave your passports or valuables in the rooms safe if you have one. Don’t go anywhere off of the strip at night. Behind the strip is a very questionable neighborhood and I’ve seen many bad things going on there. Basically just be smart, and mostly be aware. I had my wallet stolen when I lived there. They took it right out of my purse as I wore it around my shoulder. When I went to the police station the officer who took my report told me that the majority of people who come in here to report thefts are tourists whom have been pick pocketed or had their passport stolen out of their room because they didn’t lock it up in the safe.
Another thing to keep in mind, always use the crosswalks and when you do be aware that the driver sees you (make eye contact), and especially don’t be looking down at your phone as you walk across the street. Vegas has a high incident of pedestrians getting hit by cars, so once more be smart.
When in Vegas have fun, be aware, be smart, and always have one buddy who is designated whether it be for driving or just looking out for the rest of you, and young ladies never trust anyone. There is a high rate of sex trafficking in Vegas. Make sure you stay with your friends and don’t ever go with anyone who promises to take you to the hottest party on the strip, etc. Stay in a well populated area with your friends, whether it be a club or a casino. Once again, be smart.
So that’s all I’ve got for now. Do some homework any time you travel, get to know the area before you get there, and once there have a great time.
Until next time…
Great advice!!
