So we have decided to leave California, and it’s about time!
Due to some events we have had in our lives recently we finally have the opportunity to move on to a more conservative, less taxed state, and in doing so we have decided to live our lives with as little material possessions as possible for the time being.
We have started with going through boxes and files, clothes and drawers, and taking out what we don’t use or need and leaving only the things that we do. Our motto; if you haven’t used it or worn it in one or two years you probably aren’t ever going to use it or wear it again. So we are slowly going through things that we should have gone through years ago and along the way are finding all sorts of old things that we hadn’t thought of in a long time. It’s pretty cool actually and brings up lots of memories, some bad, but mostly good. Some things we will trash, but some we will donate to the appropriate donation center.
After we go through things, we pack away things that we are going to keep in boxes, which we got pretty cheap at Home Depot for around $.79 and up, and then we put boxes in the car and drive them over to storage, which is an 8’x15′ container. This is a daily event since our lease ends in the middle of next month. We will eventually rent a truck and move any larger items which shouldn’t be too many since we are selling and giving away a lot of our furniture, but until then it’s driving back and forth with boxes big and small.
The furniture we are giving away is hopefully going to our children or our friends who we know will take good care of them, and the furniture that we are selling we’re using the Nextdoor app, Facebook Marketplace, 5miles app, and maybe even Craigslist, but I’m always a bit concerned with Craigslist since there have been some sketchy things that have happened to people selling items on there in the past. Selling our furniture may be an entirely separate blog for later.
All in all, this sorting our life out by minimizing it feels fantastic and I recommend it highly to everyone. Keep following us as we move along on our journey and I guarantee you’ll have a fun time and learn a lot.
Until next time…
Well this is all good and fine, but what will you do with all of the things Jack and I have when we die? LOL Estate Sale maybe? Split the money with Brett and Kevin. Love you!
